The Bactrian camel was one of the top ten "focal species" in 2007 by the unusual and animal species (EDGE) project, the unique and endangered species identified priority for nature conservation. The primary enemies of the wild Bactrian camels are wolves that hunt in order to havens for easy prey. A small captive population is maintained in Mongolia and China.
